Why didn't it occur to me before? If life has no meaning, if total annihilation and absolute eternal oblivion is the inescapable fate of us all, life can't possibly be a tragedy. What is meaningless can't be tragic. Nothing of importance is lost by dying. Therefore, life can only be a comedy; at worst, it can be no worse than a farce, a brief stretch of cartoonish absurdity. What wonderful news!
