This collection of informal stories, reminiscences,
anecdotes, reflections, and flights of fantasy were culled from a weekly column Clarice Lispector wrote over a six-year period for a Brazilian
newspaper. They could have been blog posts if there’d been such a thing as
blogs in the late 60s and early 70s. These wide-ranging pieces offer easier
access into Lispector’s complex and original mind than do her notoriously
challenging stories and novels. Sometimes chatty, sometimes surreal, they prove
again the old adage that a great writer can make any subject interesting and even
the ordinary revelatory.
