Republicans and Democrats? Canaries in a coal mine. If the Democrats win, the people in charge take it as a sign that they're stepping on our throats too hard & they better ease up a little, at least for the time being. If the Republicans win, they know they can step a little harder & we'll take it. That's the only reason they let us vote. Not so that anything will substantively change. But to take the measure of the public's level of unrest and relieve a little pressure from the system. And to give us something to do, to give us some illusion of real control. The way you fix a pretend steering wheel to a child's car seat on a long road trip. We're being taken for a ride and the only thing we have any control over is how hard and how fast they're going to run us into the ground. I guess that's something. The question is, is that enough? I think if you walk away from the game altogether, you're sending a message. By not voting, by not waving the flag, by tuning out the propaganda by not participating in the system, you're saying you're not fooled anymore without having to sound so much as a word of protest. You're sending a message loud and clear that you aren't playing their game. That's when they really begin to worry. Because if you're not playing their game, by their rules, which they've contrived to benefit themselves in every instance, where they always win in the end, they begin to wonder, just what are you doing? What game are you playing instead?
