=Book recently read: Empire of the Senseless by Kathy Acker=
(in 100 words or less):
Hardly thirty pages into Empire of the Senseless and you can’t help asking: “What happened to American literary fiction? When did it become so ineffectual, so disengaged from political, social, sexual critique? When did it stop challenging the status quo, the powers-that-be? When did it become so fangless? When did it sell out so completely to consumerism and middle-of-the road careerism?" Acker’s work is a guerilla attack on the foundations of control and oppression. She wrote to dismantle and re-program the code of reality, not merely to entertain. Acker=literature as nomadic terrorism against the Empire. Her texts are cultural IEDs.
