You’d have to be a pretty crappy writer to write an
uninteresting book on Dada; but by the same token it’s not so easy to write a
really good book on Dada either. This is a really good book on Dada. All the
major players are represented as well as generous helpings of their ideas and
the times and circumstances in which they lived. Particularly welcome were the
profiles of Schwitters and Picabia, of whom comparatively little is available
in English. Readable and entertaining without being hopelessly dumbed down. A
call-to-arms, too. Makes you want to write a manifesto!
