::Diane Keys, Elgin, IL::
A correspondence card (message on back) & a "trash book" (front dover & sample pages). Unfortunately there is no good way to represent books of this kind in reproduction—a great deal of their charm and their very reason for being depends on this fact. They are tactile as well as visual, filled with various pockets and flaps that are made for handling, concealing and subsequently revealing surprises. They must be turned this way and that in order to properly orientate the text and visuals. These books vigorously defy any commodification: they are a "reading" experience that one must be present for physically (and therefore privileged) to participate in.
This is a particularly fine example of a "trash" book & in my opinion Diane Keys is unsurpassed as a practitioner of the form. Every one she makes can be considered a "textbook" on how to make them.
